Culture with a capital C, local heritage sites and traditions galore are yours to delight in between Bayonne and Saint-Jean-de-Luz. And of course no one can ignore the local gastronomic delights, the characteristic and delicious ewe’s milk cheese, piment d’Espelette and the famous Bayonne ham. Who could resist all these delicious specialities?
When you visit Saint-Jean-de-Luz, you should not miss the house of the ‘Infante d’Espagne’ just opposite the port, a spot that will enchant you. Take a walk to the lighthouse, a listed historical building and take a little time to admire the church. Closer to our campsite you will find the former whaling port of Guéthary, which then became a fishing village and is now a lovely seaside resort. It has a magnificent municipal park where you can walk in the shade of 100-year-old trees and admire the contemporary sculptures that are the perfect partners for their tall leafy neighbours. This is an outing filled with culture and nature that will delight young and old alike.
At your campsite in Bidart, you will be able to enjoy lots of sunshine that is so typical of the South West with its lovely warm glow and discover the local heritage sites: the Chapel of Saint Joseph, the church and the exceptional buildings, some of which date back to the Second Empire.
